Funny Stuff
Lucky Birds Media knows funny. We write it, record it, shoot it, edit it, animate it and distribute it...sometimes all at once. Here are just a few examples:
Bunny and Bee
This in-depth look at interspecies friendship is the latest web series from Lucky Birds Media.
High School Sex Reality Show
A parody of MTV's megahit show 16 and Pregnant, this sidesplitting short looks at how pregnancy affects a teenager from a more mature angle. With well over a million views, High School Sex Reality Show is one of the most popular user-generated videos on Funny Or Die.
Liev Schreiber is Super
When the superintendent of actor Liev Schreiber’s New York City apartment building suddenly returns home to Russia, Liev reluctantly agrees to fill in, only to find himself faced with his most challenging role yet. This hilarious half-hour television pilot isn’t your ordinary fish-out-of-water story...it's more like a building-out-of-hot-water story. Starring Liev Schreiber as the fish super.
Here's a sample scene:
In addition to Liev Schreiber is Super, we have a few other original pilot scripts in various stages of development, as well as spec scripts for Modern Family and Parks and Recreation.
Curly Maple Surprise
Lucky Birds Media writes and directs Curly Maple Surprise, a Los Angeles based sketch comedy group comprised of members who have trained and performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, Groundlings, iO West and more!
Here's a hilarious video we did about movie studios frantically trying to cash in on the success of Bridesmaids:
And a sketch from one of our live shows, about an extremely dumb ghost:
The Dead Authors Podcast
Legendary time-traveling writer H.G. Wells (Paul F. Tompkins) welcomes guests including Emily Dickinson (Andy Richter), Anais Nin (Maya Rudolph), Mary Shelley (Laraine Newman), and J.R.R. Tolkien (Matt Walsh) for a freewheeling discussion of all things literary and a lot of things that aren't. All proceeds from the show go to support 826LA, a non-profit writing and tutoring center dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.
Lucky Birds Media co-produces and contributes special written material to the podcast of this wildly popular show, which records monthly in front of a live audience at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles. We also produce short videos to promote upcoming episodes of the podcast...like this one:
Ben and Alex: The Interviews
A weekly podcast in the spirit of Bob & Ray, Ben and Alex: The Interviews featured in-depth discussions with some of society’s most esteemed members...as portrayed by two of society’s least esteemed members. Here's a sample, in which Ben attempts to interview bicycle expert Cal "Mr. Bicycle" Sullivan:
F*@#able Chefs Network
This deliciously funny video takes a look at how The Food Network's current lineup of chefs wouldn't look out of place in a late night Cinemax movie. This one's pretty self-explanatory...look at the title, for Pete's sake.
Unleashed
An animated comedy show that followed the trials and tribulations of animal actors in Hollywood, Unleashed debuted in July of 2006, releasing an episode every week thereafter for more than two years. It was a featured pick on YouTube, iTunes, Veoh and blip.tv, reaching as high as #16 in the iTunes directory of Top Comedy podcasts. In 2009, the show caught the eye of the good people at Purina, who licensed it as a feature for their Petcentric site.
Unleashed is a great example of the scope of what Lucky Birds Media can do, as well as a testament to our ability to get a big result from a small (or in this case, non-existent) budget. You can watch the trailer below or, if you're a completist, all 7 seasons of this groundbreaking series.
